Vagarosas is an ongoing choreographic and sonic research by Colombian-born artist Lina Gómez, unfolding between Europe and South America.
The title — from the Portuguese feminine plural vagarosas, meaning the leisurely ones — evokes a state of slowness, softness and persistence; a movement that unfolds quietly yet with deep intensity.
Rooted in Gómez’s fascination with the hidden motion of the Earth, Vagarosas draws parallels between the human body and geological time. Mountains, volcanoes and bodies appear still on the surface, yet inside they tremble, transform and endure. The work asks: how do we embody the perseverance of the land?
Through choreography, voice and live sound, seven performers explore the tension between eruption and stillness — tracing invisible vibrations that connect breath, muscle and magma. What emerges is a living landscape of bodies and sounds in coexistence.
The project has developed through international residencies and collaborations, including a field-based research at Bosque Pehuén in the Chilean Andes, supported by Fundación Mar Adentro. There, the team worked in dialogue with geologists, conservationists and local communities, walking to volcanic and glacial sites such as Quetrupillán and Pichillancahue, listening to the subtle rhythms of the land and translating them into movement and voice.
Vagarosas premiered in May 2024 at Radialsystem Berlin, co-produced with Radialsystem and developed in collaboration with an ensemble of dancers, musicians and sound artists.
Continuing as an interdisciplinary process — part performance, part geological meditation — Vagarosas connects dance, music and ecology into a single, slow-burning act of transformation.
